2013 Campaign
Toys For Tots Coordinator Scott VanGrol

For the year, 2013, the Marine Corps Reserve was removed from Rochester, New York. This left a gap in the “Toys for Tots” program. The Marine Corps Coordinating Council (MCCC) and the Genesee Valley Detachment, Marine Corps League (GVD-MCL) were asked if we could take over the "Toys for Tots" campaign for the Christmas Season 2013. The Marines of the Detachment eagerly accepted the task and under the direction our Detachment Commandant, (Marine Scott Van Grol), went about completing task. Marine Mike Chaba (President of the MCCC) Marine VanGrol (Commandant of the Genesee Valley Detachment) were to head the endeavor. Marine Chaba attended the training program in Quantico, Va.

The MCCC and GVD-MCL swung into action, making arrangements with local churches to solicit families eligible for the toys, a collection/distribution center for the collected toys and a team of Marines (veterans) to collect the toys and bring them to the distribution center. The program was successfully done but there was a lot of work and a great deal of gratitude is to be given to Marine Scott VanGrol and his wife Joanne. Marine Chaba had health issues so Joanne and Scott stepped up to keep the program on an even keel and going Forward. Marine Chaba worked as hard behind the scenes. With the support of all the volunteers, the program came to a successful conclusion.
